Singapore: Equatorial conducts its first bio-blended LSMGO bunker fuel delivery of 2025

Singapore bunker supplier Equatorial Marine Fuel Management Services Pte Ltd (Equatorial) in early May carried out its first bio-blended B24 Low Sulphur Marine Gas Oil (LSMGO) bunker fuel delivery of 2025.

The milestone saw Equatorial’s Singapore-flagged 7,999 dwt IMO Type II bunker tanker EM Nikita delivering Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester (UCOME) based LSMGO, blended to B24 spec, to an Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) operated vessel with its electronic bunker delivery note (eBDN).

“This milestone represents not just Equatorial’s first B24 LSMGO delivery, but also a significant step forward for sustainable marine fuel adoption in Singapore,” Choong Sheen Mao, Chief Operating Officer at Equatorial, told Manifold Times.

“It showcases our capability to evolve alongside the market and our commitment to providing certified, traceable, and high-quality biofuels to our customers.”

According to So Kah Meng, Sustainable Energy Manager at Equatorial, several key challenges including product sourcing, sustainability certification, product handling, and logistics & planning had to be addressed to execute the complex operation.

“Bio-blended LSMGO is significantly rarer in the market than bio-blended VLSFO due to limited production capacity, stricter blending requirements, and limited downstream demand. Equatorial secured supply through advanced procurement planning and leveraging trusted ISCC-certified upstream partners,” he explained.

“ISCC EU certification was essential to ensure traceability and regulatory compliance. Equatorial worked closely with its supply chain to ensure full documentation and sustainability verification ahead of the delivery schedule.

“Unlike bio-VLSFO, bio-blended LSMGO’s lower viscosity and pour point demanded additional considerations in tank pre-treatment and temperature control during transfer. Equatorial implemented specialised cleaning protocols and temperature monitoring to maintain fuel integrity.

“Coordination between our UCOME supplier, storage facility, barge planning, and receiving vessel was critical. Equatorial’s in-house technical and commercial teams worked closely with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and classification societies to ensure regulatory compliance and operational safety.”

Moving forward, Patrick Ng, Assistant Marketing Manager at Equatorial, believed the milestone operation was made possible by the favourable commercial maritime landscape under the supervision of MPA.

“Singapore’s strong regulatory framework, established bunkering infrastructure, and growing customer interest in low-carbon fuels have made it possible for projects like this to be commercially viable,” he stated.

“Equatorial is proud to contribute to Singapore’s decarbonisation leadership.”

CPN wraps up first B100 marine biodiesel delivery to oil tanker in Hong Kong

Hong Kong-based marine fuel supplier Chimbusco Pan Nation (CPN) on Wednesday (10 June) said it has successfully delivered B100 marine biodiesel to an oil tanker for the first time, bunkering the vessel TORM CORRIDO on 8 June.

The operation marked a significant expansion of CPN’s B100 capability, bringing oil tankers into the range of vessel types it can serve with fully compliant, certified biodiesel supply in Hong Kong.

The achievement reflects a broader surge in market demand. Since CPN launched its B100 marine biodiesel service in January 2026, operator confidence has grown rapidly, and total volumes delivered in the second quarter of 2026 have already exceeded first-quarter totals by more than 300%.

“Total B100 marine biodiesel volumes in Q2 2026 have already exceeded Q1 by more than 300%, driven by the trust of partners like TORM,” CPN said.

The operation was carried out by CPN’s dedicated bunker tanker Guo Si, fully upgraded in compliance with the IMO IBC Code and Hong Kong Cap. 413E.

“As Hong Kong’s only Type II-certified bunker tanker for B100 operations, Guo Si brings the specialist capability to handle pure biofuels safely and compliantly across vessel types,” the company added.

Axpo, Carnival Corporation conduct Naples’ first LNG bunkering operation of cruise ship

Switzerland’s energy producer Axpo on Tuesday (26 May) said it has successfully completed the first LNG bunkering of a cruise ship in Naples, Italy, it was announced today.

The ship-to-ship bunkering operation of the Sun Princess, operated by Princess Cruises, part of Carnival Corporation, took place on 24 May.

The operation at the Port of Naples, was performed using the LNG bunkering tanker Green Zeebrugge, previously deployed in the Port of Genoa.

The transfer of LNG to the cruise ship Sun Princess represented a key step in the expansion of LNG in the maritime sector, thereby supporting emission reduction efforts within this industry.

Axpo’s Head of Small-Scale LNG Daniele Corti, said: “This operation is further demonstration that an alternative fuel infrastructure is truly up and running. When industry partners collaborate towards a common goal, Europe’s shipping industry makes real progress towards lowering emissions. I’d like to thank the local authorities and Carnival Corporation for enabling this significant milestone.”

“This milestone marks important progress for Carnival Corporation as we continue expanding the use of LNG across our world-class cruise lines including Princess Cruises,” said John Haeflinger, senior vice president, maritime policy and analysis, Carnival Corporation. “Advancing access to alternative fuels in key ports is essential to supporting our efforts to reduce emissions, and this milestone reflects the power of collaboration across our industry.

The successful operation is the result of close collaboration between Axpo, the Port System Authority of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea, Terminal Napoli, and the Port Authority of Naples, which coordinated operational and regulatory activities related to the bunkering operation.
