Fratelli Cosulich Bunkers Singapore, CIMC SOE collaborate to build ammonia bunker tanker

29 Sep 2022

Fratelli Cosulich Bunkers Singapore and Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (CIMC SOE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction of an ammonia bunker tanker, according to Fratelli Cosulich Bunkers Singapore on Wednesday (28 September).

With this MoU, happening less than one year after the start of the Joint Development Project (JDP with RINA and SeaTech) Fratelli Cosulich shows a solid intention to take further steps towards green shipping.

“As shipowners and bunker suppliers, Fratelli Cosulich believes that the shipping industry will act in a proactive manner to reduce Shipping Greenhouse Emissions to support the ambitions laid out by IMO,” said the firm.

Ammonia has great potential as a zero-carbon marine fuel and the company said it is ready to work together with the sector stakeholders to overcome any safety and operational challenges.

In line with this, Fratelli Cosulich is involved also in some industry studies, like the ammonia bunker safety study led by the Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonization (GCMD).

This joint cooperation came after previous orders of two LNG bunkering vessels which CIMC SOE shipyard is currently building for Fratelli Cosulich.
