Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (K LINE) on Friday (22 July) said its group company, Seagate Corporation Co., Ltd., a harbour logistics services provider, will build a new electric tugboat powered by battery.
The new tugboat will be equipped with a propulsion system running on a “Hybrid EV system”.
It will utilise an electric motor as a main power source, running with a large capacity lithium-ion battery that will be charged by a land charger. It will also be equipped with a generator for an auxiliary power source.
It will be the first tugboat to have an electric motor as a main power source in Tokuyama and will be deployed in the first half of 2025 to reduce greenhouse gas emission in the city area, said K LINE.
