Operation was performed on Carnival’s LNG-powered cruise ship Costa Smeralda by Shell’s bunker vessel Coral Methane with the ‘reassuring presence’ of firefighters.
Approximately 1,480 cubic metres of LNG was bunkered into Eagle Blane by Shell LNG Trading in an operation lasting nearly 15 hours.
‘Despite large LNG tanks, comfort and safety onboard has been redefined, whilst maintaining speed expectations of traditional high-speed diesel engines,’ said Senior VP.
Other participants in the project include POSCO, EK Heavy Industries, MyTek, Valmax Technology, and Seoul Line; vessel delivery expected by 2021, it said.
Vessel will be based at JERA’s Kawagoe Thermal Power Station in the Chubu region and commence ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operations for LNG-fuelled ships.
