Representatives from the shipping and transportation departments of Zhoushan and Ningbo on Wednesday (5 July) signed the “Agreement on Mutual Recognition of Marine Fuel Oil Cross-port Supply” plan, according to China-based news outlets.

According to the agreement, qualified non-bonded marine fuel oil supply businesses in Ningbo and Zhoushan can carry out cross-port two-way bunkering operations on a pilot basis at Ningbo Zhoushan Port.

The transportation (port) management departments of Ningbo and Zhooushan will jointly establish and improve information communication and cross-port supply collaboration mechanisms.

This will further strengthen data sharing and business collaboration, and ensure the healthy, stable and sustainable development of the non-bonded marine fuel oil supply industry at Ningbo Zhoushan Port.

According to statistics, Ningbo has a total of 23 registered and qualified domestic marine fuel oil supply companies, mainly eight key players engaged in bunkering and has 36 bunker tankers. China’s bunker fuel supply volume in 2022 was 735,000 metric tonnes (mt).

Last year, Manifold Times reported Zhoushan and Ningbo collaborated to allow ‘cross-port’ bonded bunkering operations.
