Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), recently started the construction of a 14,000 cubic metre (m3) liquified natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessel for Anhui Changjiang LNG Co., Ltd, said CSSC on Friday (26 August).
The vessel was intended to be built in line with China’s implementation of “gasification of the Yangtze River” strategy where LNG is being gradually used in inland vessels and the dual-carbon strategy.
The vessel, to be classified by China Classification Society (CSS) will have dual functions of a LNG bunkering and transportation vessel from river to sea. It will have a total length of 130 metres, a moulded width of 23.60 metres and a moulded depth of 15 metres.
The unique shallow draft design will enable the ship to navigate extremely low levels of water in the Yangtze River channel and will be able to pass through the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge.
Some of its key equipment include high and low load compressors, reliquefaction units, LNG submersible pumps, and LNG cryogenic valves.
The ship is expected to be operational in August 2024.
