Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd (MOL) on Tuesday (24 September) announced it held a naming ceremony for the new LNG-fuelled car carrier Celeste Ace at the dockyard of Shin Kurushima Dockyard, in Ehime, Japan.
This is the sixth LNG-fuelled car carrier under MOL’s operation out of a total 14, whose deliveries have already been fixed.

“LNG can reduce 25% to 30% of CO2 emissions compared to conventional fuel oil, and we are planning to deliver 90 LNG/methanol-fuelled vessels by 2030,” it said in a social media post.
During the ceremony, special guest Mr. Makoto Uchida, CEO of Nissan Motor Corporation, and MOL’s CEO Takeshi Hashimoto exchanged some memento with each other to celebrate the vessel’s naming and to wish her safe voyage.
Manifold Times previously reported MOL naming and launching LNG-fuelled ferry Sunflower Pirka. The Sunflower Pirka is slated for delivery from Naikai Zosen in April 2025, and will then enter service on the Oarai-Tomakomai route operated by MOL Sunflower.
