China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co. Ltd. on Tuesday (31 January) said it successfully delivered the first of four LNG fuelled 7,000 car equivalent units (CEUs) pure car truck carriers (PCTC) vessels to Japanese shipping firm NYK Line, according to China-based news outlets on 2 February.
Representatives from China Merchants Industry, NYK, and classification society DNV attended the signing ceremony for the delivery of the ship, Jasmine Leader.
The ship is the first of four such LNG fuelled PCTC signed between China Merchants Jinling Shipyard and NYK.
The ship has a total length of 199 metres and a width of 38 metres. It has 12 car decks and four movable decks.
The ship adheres to the concept of “green and low-carbon, energy-saving and efficient, environmentally friendly, and safe”
Manifold Times previously reported NYK Line announcing it concluded a shipbuilding contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Nanjing) Co. Ltd. for four LNG fuelled PCTC in 2021.
These four vessels will be delivered from 2022 to 2023 and are planned to be assigned to transport vehicles mainly to/from Europe and/or to the Middle East.
NYK said concluding this ship-building contract for these four vessels is in line with its plan to replace current vessels with around 40 newly built LNG-fuelled PCTCs over the next decade to achieve NYK’s environment management target, which is to reduce CO2 emissions per tonne-kilometre of transport by 50% by 2050.
