Shanghai-based China COSCO Shipping Group Co., Ltd. on Friday (18 March) said it has signed agreements at a virtual event for the construction and leasing of two 700 TEU-class electric containerships to support Yangtze river operations.
Representatives from the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Communications, Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration, Hubei Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, Wuhan New Port Committee, China Classification Society, COSCO SHIPPING Lines, Shanghai Port Group, amongst others, attended the “Cloud Signing” ceremony.
The successful research and development of the new 700 TEU-class electric container ships on the Yangtze River trunk line and the signing of the container ship project are steps taken by COSCO SHIPPING to implement green development strategies of China’s “14th Five-Year Plan”.
Huang Xiaowen, deputy general manager of COSCO SHIPPING Group, said the development of promoting ship electrification is an important milestone in the history of green and smart shipping for the Yangtze river.
He expressed his appreciation for the strong support from ministries and local governments, and the close assistance of partners in production, finance, learning, research and other aspects of the industrial chain in making the project possible.
