China-based shipbuilding firm Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd (CIMC SOE) has started construction of the first 7,600 cubic metre (m3) LNG bunkering vessel for Canadian shipowner Seaspan ULC, according to Chinese news outlets on Friday (3 February).
The Canadian-flagged ship will be the first LNG bunkering ship in the Pacific Northwest region after completion.
The ship will have a total length of 112.8 metres, a molded breadth of 18.6 metres, a design draft of 5 metres and will travel at a speed of 13 knots. It will be classed by the classification society Bureau Veritas.
Its design will incorporate the latest vessel technology, increase the capacity of the power storage system, and further reduce operational pollution emissions and greenhouse gas emissions.
In addition, the new ship will be equipped with relevant propellers, which has excellent manoeuvrability and can be applied to LNG loading, unloading and bunkering services in different situations, according to the firm.
The performance indicators of the ship have reached the international advanced level, the company added.
Manifold Times previously reported Seaspan ULC signing a shipbuilding contract with CIMC SOE for the construction of two 7,600 m3 LNG bunker vessels, with the option for a third vessel.
