China: CCS issues first Type Approval Certificate for a methanol engine to Wartsila

China Classification Society (CCS) on Thursday (9 November) said it has issued the first Type Approval Certificate for a methanol engine to Wärtsilä Finland’s W32M. 

Wärtsilä W32M engine is a dual-fuel four-stroke engine that can run on multi-fuels such as methanol and fuel. 

“Against the backdrop of global shipping’s decarbonisation efforts, this achievement marks a crucial step forward. The W32M engine’s approval not only contributes to carbon reduction but also paves the way for a stronger collaboration between CCS and Wartsila in the realm of new energy and technology,” it said.

The milestone was celebrated in a special ceremony at Wärtsilä Finland during CCS’s visit. 

President Sun Feng led the CCS delegation, engaged in discussions with Stefan Nysjö, VP of Power Supply at Wärtsilä, and their expert teams, on decarbonisation of global shipping and the exciting potential of marine alternative bunker fuels.
