Brookes Bell appoints Fuel Services Technical Lead for new bunker fuel testing facility

Construction has just started on the laboratory, which will be based in Liverpool, and is expected to be fully kitted out and operational at the end of October.

UK-based global technical and scientific consultancy Brookes Bell on Wednesday (19 August) said it has hired a Fuel Services Technical Lead with more than 15 years of experience in environmental testing, to establish and manage its new fuel testing facility.

Construction has just started on the high-end laboratory which will be based in Liverpool and will give Brookes Bell the capacity to deliver comprehensive metallurgy, fuel testing, paint analysis and non-destructive testing facilities, it said. 

Scheduled to be fully kitted out and operational at the end of October (COVID-19 permitting) new hire Jenny Davies is managing the establishment of the new fuel testing services, which includes advising on new equipment, drafting all management procedures and securing necessary industry accreditations, including the ISO17025 standard.

Brookes Bell noted that Jenny has worked for many years in the environmental sector developing methods for persistent organic pollutants. 

She specialises in analysis environmental forensics by mass spectrometry and is skilled in laboratory management, ISO 17025 Quality Management Systems, test methods and analytical techniques.  

Her last role saw her develop a laboratory and its services from just ten chemists to 180 specialist technicians with an accompanying range of services.

“Our new fuel testing facility will be equipped with the latest industry equipment to offer a full range of technical services, enhancing our existing range and enabling us to develop new offerings across new industries,” said Brendan Cuffe, Head of UK (Marine Engineer) Brookes Bell. 

“This is an exciting development and will enable us to transform our business services and scope moving forward.  

“Jenny will be joined by a newly hired fuel technician at the end of this month, and together they form the beginning of a team with enormous potential.”

The final meeting of World Fuel Singapore Holding Company I, has been scheduled to take place on 19 June, according to the company’s liquidator on a notice posted on Friday (17 May) on the Government Gazette.

The meeting will be held at 4pm at 8 Marina View, #40-04/05, Asia Square Tower 1, Singapore 018960. 

It will be held for the purposes of having accounts laid before the meeting showing the manner in which the winding-up has been conducted and hearing any explanations that may be given by the liquidators.

An Annual Report of World Fuel Services Corporation, before it was renamed to World Kinect Corporation, was filed on 24 February 2023 on the US Securities and Exchange Commission website.

X-Press Feeders takes delivery of methanol dual-fuel vessel from China

Singapore-based global maritime container shipping company X-Press Feeders on Thursday (16 April) announced the successful delivery of its first-ever dual-fuel vessel, built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings.

Departing from Shanghai to Rotterdam via Singapore, the vessel marked “a giant leap” in the company’s efforts to sustainable shipping.

“As the first of its kind built in China, it features a dual-fuel engine that can run on green methanol, spearheading Europe’s first feeder network powered by green methanol starting in Q3,” the firm said in a social media post. 

Manifold Times previously reported OCI Hyfuels will be supplying X-Press Feeders with green methanol in the Port of Rotterdam from 2024.

Manifold Times also previously reported the company aims to create ‘green routes’ early next year to the Scandinavia-Baltic region of northern Europe by using its dual-fuel vessels.

The maritime shipping company, which operates a fleet of more than 100 vessels, has 14 dual-fuel vessels on order and due for delivery from 2024 through to mid-2026. X-Press Feeders’ 14 dual-fuel ships are each at 1,200 TEU capacity with length overall (LOA) of 148 metres.

“K” LINE completes first B100 bio bunker fuel trial on car carrier “APOLLON HIGHWAY”

Japanese transportation firm Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE) on Thursday (16 April) announced that the firm has conducted its first trial use of marine B100 biofuel, supplied by global energy management company World Fuel Services, on car carrier “APOLLON HIGHWAY” operated by “K” LINE.

The marine B100 biofuel, composed of 100% biodiesel, was delivered to the vessel at the Belgium port of Zeebrugge on 31 March.

After leaving Europe Emission Control Area, the vessel started using the B100 biofuel. The trial was completed on 30 April.

“As an action plan, we will continue to work on the introduction of new fuels, which have a low environmental impact and take on the challenge of achieving the targets set forth,” the firm said.
