Skarv Shipping Solutions (Skarv) on Monday (23 March) said it has taken delivery of the first ammonia and methanol ready multipurpose vessel in a series of four vessels.
PEAK SKARV 1 is the first newbuilding contracted for Skarv at Huanghai Shipbuilding in Weihai, China.
The design includes an optimised engine ready for ammonia or methanol, batteries, a shore-power system, peak shaving with a dynamic propeller drive system, and a high-voltage switchboard prepared for future green power production, such as fuel cell technologies and increased battery capacity.
With a DWT of 7900, a LOA of 108.2 meters, and a beam of 18.1 meters, PEAK SKARV 1 will serve the North European shortsea market.
“Now, the vessel will pick up its first cargo before heading for Europe, arriving before the summer,” the company said in a social media post.
Two years ago, Skarv signed a contract with Huanghai Shipbuilding for the four 7,000 dwt multipurpose vessels, with an option for four more.
Skarv, which will own the ships, is a joint venture between Peak Group and Grieg Edge.
In addition, the company also has on order a fifth vessel – a dual-fuel ammonia vessel – for commercial operation by Arriva Shipping and scheduled for delivery during 2027.
