China: Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding undocks LNG bunkering newbuild

Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co Ltd, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), on Thursday (25 January) said it successfully undocked a new LNG bunkering vessel, marking the launch of the vessel on 24 January.

The shipbuilder said the 14,000 cubic metre vessel, which it independently developed, designed and built, will now undergo a sea trial and is scheduled to be completed for delivery in August this year.

Han Jiazhang, Party Committee Member and Deputy General Manager of Huaihe Energy (Group) Co Ltd, Yan Peibing, Deputy Director of the Oil and Gas Division of Anhui Energy administration, Zhuang Jiahan, Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of Huaihe Energy Gas Group, Zhou Zhenbai were among those present for the undocking and ribbon cutting ceremony.

The ship, ordered by Anhui Changjiang LNG to support the Gasification of the Yangtze River strategy and China’s dual carbon policy, will serve dual functions of LNG bunkering and transportation services directly from river to sea.

Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding added that the ship was equipped with the B- type LNG containment system independently developed by the company.

“This was the first time such a system has achieved engineering applications on a domestic LNG carrier, marking a major breakthrough in the B-type LNG containment system that China has developed and has completely independent intellectual property rights,” it said.

Classed by China Classification Society (CCS), the ship has a total length of 130 metres, a moulded width of 23.6 metres, and a moulded depth of 15 metres.

The ship adopts a unique shallow draft design, which not only meets the design requirements of the ocean, but also achieves seaworthiness under extreme low water levels in the Yangtze River Channel. This makes the ship suitable for the unlimited navigation zone and is able to pass through the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge all year round.
