Malaysia: MMEA detains cargo ship “Tao Brave” for illegally anchoring off Sekinchan

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on Wednesday (22 March) said it detained a cargo ship for alleged illegal anchoring offences about 17.1 nautical miles west of Sekinchan, Selangor on 21 March.

Selangor MMEA director Maritime Captain Siva Kumar Vengadasalam said a patrol boat arrested Panama-flagged Tao Brave at 4.10pm after they received information from the Central Region Marine Department the ship not have permission from MMEA to anchor.

The vessel is believed to have travelled from Singapore to Port Klang with 22 male crew onboard. The crew were all from Philippines aged 27 to 62 with valid identification documents. 

The crew including a captain were brought to Selangor State Maritime Headquarters for further investigation. 

According to him, the case was being investigated under Section 491B(1)(L) of the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for illegally anchoring.
