HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Engine & Machinery (HHI-EMD) recently said it successfully completed the Type Approval Test (TAT) for its next-generation HiMSEN LNG dual-fuel engine, the H35CDF, from 21 to 23 September at the Engine Techno Center.
Representatives from seven major classification societies participated in the test, including Korean Register, ABS, Bureau Veritas and DNV.
The H35CDF is a newly developed engine based on HiMSEN’s second-generation CLEAN Engine Platform, integrating the proven technologies and operational experience of the H35DF LNG dual-fuel engine, one of the flagship models in the HiMSEN engine lineup.
The engine incorporates advanced technologies, including Variable Valve Timing (VVT), which enables precise control of the air supplied to the combustion chamber. As a result, it achieves both improved fuel efficiency and reduced methane slip compared with previous engine models.
“LNG is widely recognized as an environmentally friendly marine fuel with the highest level of technological maturity and well-established infrastructure,” it said.
“In response to growing market demand for high-efficiency and high-output engines, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries developed the H35CDF, further strengthening its LNG dual-fuel engine portfolio.”
By successfully completing the type approval test for the H35CDF, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has once again demonstrated the performance, reliability, and safety of its LNG dual-fuel engine technology. The company expects the achievement to further reinforce its position in the global marine engine market.
