Chimbusco Zhoushan, subsidiary of state-owned bunkering firm China Marine Bunker (Petro China) Co., Ltd. (also known as Chimbusco), has started the first phase of construction for its lubricant storage and supply base at the Zhoushan area of Zhejiang Pilot Free Trade Zone, according to the Zhoushan Management Committee of the China (Zhejiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
Located on Xiaogan Island, the development will result in the construction of three marine lube oil warehouses spanning more than 3,000 square meters to improve marine lubricant distribution operations in the region.
“Our [current] storage base is in located Ningbo. Due to logistics restrictions, local demand has not been well received. After completion [of the project]], logistics costs will be reduced and supply efficiency will be improved,” explained Zhang Guoqing, head of safety at Chimbusco Zhoushan.
Since 2018, Chimbusco Zhoushan has supplied about 3,000 metric tonnes (mt) of lubricants per annum to sailing ships in Zhoushan port’s outer anchorage.
The project, when completed, will increase annual supply capacity of marine lubricants at Zhoushan to 20,000 mt, and further promote the establishment of the international maritime service base at Zhejiang Pilot Free Trade Zone.
First phase of the development is expected to be completed by mid-January 2023; followed by construction of the second phase of the project commencing early next year.
