Energy firm Repsol on Saturday (5 April) said it achieved a significant milestone in its supply of alternative fuels, reaching its 500th supply of LNG/bio-LNG from the bunker terminals of Santander and Bilbao.

According to Carlos Martin Iglesias, LNG Bunker trader at Repsol, the bunker fuel was supplied to Brittany Ferries’ LNG-fuelled vessel Salamanca.

“Two years ago, at this Bilbao terminal and with this same ship, we embarked on this exciting journey,” he said in a social media post.

“We look forward to achieving the next 1,000 operations. So, if you find yourself in Santander, Bilbao, or any port on the Iberian Peninsula and need LNG/bio-LNG as fuel, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.”

On 3 October last year, Repsol announced it started supplying liquefied biomethane (bio-LNG) to Brittany Ferries’ vessels Salamanca and Santoña at the LNG-bunkering terminal in Santander, Spain.

In 2019, Manifold Times reported Brittany Ferries and Repsol extending their agreement for the supply of LNG to the ferry operator’s Spanish operations.

Under the agreement, the energy company would build two LNG bunker terminals at the ports of Bilbao and Santander, where Brittany Ferries conducts its Spanish operations.
