Port of Malaga achieves milestone with first bio-LNG bunkering operation

The Port of Malaga recently said it hosted its first bio-LNG bunkering operation with the arrival of the LNG bunker vessel Avenir Aspiration.

On 24 September, the bunker vessel supplied 3,000 cubic metres (m3) of bio-LNG to container ship MSC Gabon.

The operation was carried out by Axpo, a company authorised to provide LNG supply services to ships in the Port of Malaga. Axpo was the first company to carry out a ship-to-ship LNG operation in the Malaga enclave, and now also becomes the first to supply bio-LNG to this port.

“The successful operation confirms Malaga as a strategic hub for the supply of alternative fuels in the Mediterranean , opening up new opportunities for the development of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly services,” the port said on its website.
