Japan: MOL LNG-fuelled tugboat “Ishin” marks 100th LNG bunkering in Osaka

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) on Wednesday (12 July) announced LNG-fuelled tugboat Ishin, owned by MOL and operated by its group company Nihon Tug-Boat Co., Ltd., has marked its 100th LNG bunkering at the Port of Sakai-Semboku, Osaka, after entering service in 2019.
A ceremony to celebrate the milestone was held at the Port of Sakai Semboku and a commemorative plaque was presented by the Osaka Ports and Harbors Bureau.
Ishin is currently engaged in harbor towage and escort operations for large freighters and other vessels mainly in the Port of Sakai-Semboku. It receives carbon neutral LNG from Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. and Daigas Energy Co., Ltd. via truck-to-ship transfer.
MOL said it will further expand the introduction of LNG-fuelled vessels and accelerate its efforts to reduce total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with the aim of achieving net zero GHG emissions by 2050,
