IINO Kaiun Kaisha (IINO Lines) on Wednesday (23 October) said it will build Japan’s first large methanol dual-fuel crude oil tanker at Nihon Shipyard (NSY).
It will be based on the design concept formulated by the four-company consortium comprising IINO Lines, Idemitsu Tanker Co., Ltd., Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha and NSY.
“The vessel is scheduled to be completed in 2027 and it has decided to be allocated for a charter contract with Idemitsu Tanker,” IINO Lines said in a statement.
The vessel can use methanol as fuel in addition to conventional fuel oil, and is equipped with a shaft generator that generates electricity by utilising the rotation of the main propeller shaft.
“We are committed to safe and stable transportation by utilising our abundant experience and technical capabilities cultivated through many years of operation and management, and we will continue to actively introduce technologies that reduce environmental impact, thereby contributing to the realisation of a sustainable society,” IINO Lines added.
