Fire breaks out in engine room of Malta-flagged tanker in Singapore

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Monday (21 October) said it was alerted of a fire broke out in the engine room of a Malta-flagged tanker in the East Johor Strait, within Singapore waters.
MPA received the report at 10.30am on 21 October that the fire took place onboard tanker MED ATLANTIC.
“An MPA patrol craft, two Police Coast Guard craft, three Singapore Civil Defence Force marine firefighting and rescue vessels, and two tug-boats have been deployed to render assistance and ensure navigational safety,” it said in a statement.
“All 22 crew have disembarked the vessel and are reported to be safe with no injuries.”
The vessel is currently anchored.
There is no disruption to vessel traffic in the area. MPA is issuing navigational broadcasts for passing vessels to keep clear of the incident area.
The Singapore Food Agency is monitoring the situation closely and has advised the fish farms in the vicinity to take the necessary precautionary measures.
