China: Sinobunker and Towngas to research on green methanol bunker fuel

China Shipping & Sinopec Suppliers Co Ltd (SinoBunker) on Thursday (15 August) said it signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) in Inner Mongolia.

Both parties said the agreement is to deepen strategic cooperation, carry out deeper research and technical breakthroughs in the application of green methanol as a bunker fuel for ships, jointly promote the promotion and application of green methanol in the shipping industry, and promote the green transition in the bunker industry.

Leaders of SinoBunker, Qin Ling, general manager and party secretary of the company, and Cen Wenhui, chief operating officer of Towngas’ green fuel and chemical business, attended the meeting and witnessed the signing.

Before the signing ceremony, a delegation from relevant units of the SinoBunker’s green methanol industry chain visited the Hong Kong and China Gas Inner Mongolia Green Methanol Production Plant.

At the meeting, both parties conducted in-depth discussions on the sources of green methanol raw materials, carbon certification, and synthesis process technology, to further promote green methanol bunkering and realise a green, low-carbon and environmentally-friendly shipping industry.
