China: Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding delivers third LNG dual-fuel boxship to ZIM

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s subsidiary Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. delivered the third LNG dual-fuel containership Zim Emerald to ZIM Integrated Shipping Services, the ship operator, on Friday (15 December).

Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding built the 7,000TEU ship for ship owner Seaspan Corporation. The ship has a total length of 272 metres, a moulded width of 42.8 metres, and a moulded depth of 24.6 metres. The main engine, generator, and boiler utilise both fuel oil and LNG.

The vessel is considered an “iconic ship type” for Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding’s comprehensive transformation in building green ships. 

It is the first dual-fuel medium-sized container ship in China equipped with B-type fuel tanks. The ship is the third of 15 of the same ship type, which will be built by Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding. 

The construction of the Zim Emerald ship started in November 2022. It was successfully completed with the cooperation of Seaspan’s on-site construction supervision team, classification society DNV, shipyard employees and other parties.
