China: CMA CGM names 13,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel large container ship “CMA CGM BUZIOS”

French shipping giant CMA CGM has named its 13,000 TEU liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel large container ship as CMA CGM BUZIOS on Wednesday (31 January), according to the shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co Ltd on 1 February.

The boxship will be operating on the east coast route of South America and was delivered on 2 January.

The shipbuilder said it was the second ship it delivered in 2024, making a positive start to completing its target of 20 ships throughout the year.

The 13,000 TEU dual-fuel container ship is the second type of dual-fuel tank ship built by the company after a 23,000 TEU dual-fuel container ship was delivered in December 2023. The ship has a total length of 336 meters and a width of 51 meters. It is equipped with a 14,000 cubic meter MARK III LNG cargo tank and has a maximum load capacity of 13,200 TEUs. It has the characteristics of flexible container loading, leading technology, energy saving and environmental protection.

The ship is equipped with the Mark III liquid cargo containment system and the world’s new generation Intelligent Controlled Exhaust Gas Recirculation ( ICER ) system, which can reduce methane escape in gas mode by 50% and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 28% .

The company and CMA CGM have signed construction contracts for a total of 20 multi-type container ships, and a total of 12 ships have been delivered.
