Nordic energy company Gasum on Monday (25 August) said its LNG bunkering vessel Coralius successfully completed its 1000th operation on 23 August — delivering the marine fuel to cruise ship MSC Euribia in the Port of Kiel, Germany.
Coralius is a liquefied gas bunkering vessel and can bunker both liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied biogas (bio-LNG). In its eight years of operation Coralius has delivered more than 270,000 metric tonnes (mt) of LNG to a wide variety of vessels, both large and small.
The Coralius performed her maiden bunkering in September 2017. The vessel is owned by Anthony Veder and Sirius Shipping and chartered by Gasum.
From August 2025, Coralius will run only on bio-LNG. The generated FuelEU Maritime over-compliance will be available to shipowners through Gasum’s pooling service.
Gasum said it is committed to increasing the availability of bio-LNG to its maritime customers in the coming years. Demand is expected to intensify as a result of tightening regulations and end-customer requirements.
With that, Gasum has chartered a new LNG and bio-LNG bunker vessel that will serve Gasum’s customers starting 2027. The new vessel, to be named Celsius, will have better fuel efficiency, improved tank insulation and larger cargo capacity.
Celsius will be owned by a Joint Venture between Gasum and Swedish shipping company Sirius Shipping. The vessel will be built by RMK Marine yard in Istanbul, Turkey.
