Gate terminal on Maasvlakte in Rotterdam on Monday (11 March) said it has started a Call for Expression of Interest for a new jetty, named Jetty 4, following a “positive outlook” for liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker market in Northwest Europe.
Gate terminal on Maasvlakte in Rotterdam is the first and only LNG import terminal in the Netherlands. The terminal, a joint venture between Nederlandse Gasunie and Royal Vopak, takes care of the supply and throughput of LNG for Northwest Europe.
The terminal said it was exploring market demand through a non-binding call for expression of interest in small scale ship loading services for a new to-be constructed jetty .
Currently Gate terminal offers small scale ship loading, mainly for the marine bunkering market, at a dedicated small scale jetty, Jetty 3.
“Considering the current high occupancy of the jetty and a positive outlook for the LNG bunker market in Northwest Europe, an additional jetty is required to support growth for small scale loading,” it said on its website.
“The new jetty is an important step in reducing GHG emissions towards the marine sector by facilitating services for LNG, Bio-LNG and synthetic LNG. Providing shore power to reduce NOX and GHG emissions during the stay at the jetty is in the scope of the project.”
The process started on 11 March and participants are required to submit their interest by Friday, 12 April latest.
“Based mainly on the outcome of this market consultation, Gate terminal will decide on moving towards detailed engineering and filing of the permit request. Participants are kindly requested to provide their best estimate of required jetty capacity and term of contract,” it added.
