MSC Cruises on Wednesday (17 January) said it achieved a milestone for MSC Euribia which became the first cruise ship to be fuelled with liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the Port of Cadiz during the vessel’s first visit to the Spanish port.
“In a maritime tradition to mark a ship’s inaugural arrival, Captain Pietro Sinisi and Teófila Martínez, President of the Port Authority of the Bay of Cadiz, exchanged plaques on board,” MSC Cruises said in a social media post.
LNG bunker fuel was provided by Peninsula ahead of MSC Euribia’s 13-night voyage to Hamburg, Germany with visits en route to the Canary Islands, Morocco, Madeira, Portugal and the UK.
MSC Euribia, the second ship in MSC Cruises’ fleet powered by LNG, began operations in June 2023 following MSC World Europa’s launch in December 2022.
