Kenneth Lim highlights MPA’s pivotal role in driving multi-fuel transition including development of bunkering infrastructure and financing mechanisms for zero and near-zero emission fuels.

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on Wednesday (26 July) said its Assistant Chief Executive (Industry and Transformation) Kenneth Lim discussed the future of hydrogen and its derivatives as a marine fuel at a conference.

Lim was part of the panel titled “Energising the Hydrogen Export with A Strong Supply Chain” at the Connecting Green Hydrogen APAC 2023 held on 25 to 26 July in Melbourne, Australia.

He highlighted the significance of Singapore’s transition towards a low-carbon future.

Lim emphasised MPA’s pivotal role in driving the multi-fuel transition, including the building of Green and Digital Shipping Corridors (GDSCs) with like-minded global partners to facilitate pilot trials and standards development, and the development of bunkering infrastructure, regulations, and financing mechanisms for the uptake of zero and near-zero emission fuels and technologies.

“Achieving this vision will also necessitate a collaborative and strategic approach, involving not only Singapore but also its global partners, in shaping a greener and more sustainable maritime sector,” according to MPA in a social media post.

Manifold Times previously reported Energy Market Authority (EMA) and MPA inviting interested parties to submit proposals under an Expression of Interest (EOI) to build, own and operate low or zero-carbon power generation and bunkering solutions in Jurong Island, Singapore. The EOI closed on 30 April.

The EOI was to explore the use of low or zero-carbon fuels such as hydrogen and ammonia for power generation, alongside other low-carbon alternatives such as electricity imports and domestic renewable energy source.

Singapore is also in discussion to form a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor by 2025 with Australia. MPA, Port of Los Angeles (POLA), and Port of Long Beach (POLB), with the support of C40 Cities, also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a green and digital shipping corridor between Singapore and the San Pedro Bay port complex.
