The High Court of the Republic of Singapore on Thursday (23 March) raised the jail terms of a former manager at BP Singapore and the businessman who paid him $5.88 million in bribes, from four years and six months to six years and eight months, according to The Straits Times.
In addition, the ex-manager in charge of BP Singapore’s bunker fuel business, Clarence Chang Peng Hong, 57, was ordered to pay a penalty equivalent to the bribes he received between 2006 and 2010.
Chang received USD 3.95 million from businessman Koh Seng Lee, 60, executive director of marine fuel trading firm Pacific Prime Trading (PPT), on 19 occasions between 2006 and 2010.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Jiang Ke-Yue said Chang instructed his subordinates to allocate contracts with good pricing to PPT first, noted court documents obtained by Manifold Times.
Chang also dismissed the fact PPT did not have the required licence to deliver oil directly to vessels, and leaked confidential information to Koh, showed documents.
Manifold Times previously reported District Judge Ong Chin Rhu issuing a 54-month (four years six months) jail term each for Koh and Chang.
