Worldwide shipping and logistics company CMA CGM Group on Saturday (13 March) reported in its financial results it has reduced its vessels’ CO2 emissions by 4% in 2020.
In 2020, the CMA CGM said its fleet of vessels reduced its overall emissions by 4% compared to 2019, having already reduced them by 6% in 2019 compared to 2018.
Since 2008, the group has reduced its CO2 emissions by 49% (TEU-km), in line with its objective of reaching -50% emissions by 2030.
This reduction is aligned with its target of becoming carbon neutral by 2050 and increasing the share of alternative fuels consumed to 10% by 2023, said CMA CGM.
Additionally, CMA CGM said it will own a fleet of 32 LNG-powered container ships by the end of 2022 as vessels powered by LNG can emit up to 20% less CO2 compared to an oil engine.
