Hong Kong shipowner Wah Kwong Maritime Transport on Saturday (1 March) announced its strategic partnership with CIMC ENRIC on bio-methanol bunkering initiatives.
Both agreed to advance green methanol bunkering applications, logistics and bunkering services in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and across Asia.
Both parties met in Shenzhen for a signing ceremony on 26 February.
“The project will combine CIMC ENRIC’s supply of renewable fuels with Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Limited’s expertise in safe delivery to customers,” it said in a social media post.
“Working together with partners across the value chain, the cooperation will develop a pilot green methanol bunkering operation within GBA.”
Separately, CIMC ENRIC said it will jointly promote with Wah Kwong Maritime Transport the market application of renewable fuels and consider potential joint investment opportunities.
“CIMC Enric will supply green methanol that meets the certification requirements of ISCC EU,” it said.
“Wah Kwong Maritime Transport will serve as a user and downstream bunkering logistics partner and be responsible for the market promotion services of some of CIMC Enric’s green methanol.”
CIMC Enric is currently building a renewable green methanol plant in Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tonnes in the first phase and 200,000 tonnes in the second phase, which is expected to be put into operation in the second half of this year.
The plant has a superior geographical location and its production capacity can radiate the Greater Bay Area in China and overseas Southeast Asia.
As the project is approaching commissioning, CIMC Enric is also actively exploring with its partners, including Wah Kwong Maritime Transport, to open up the entire upstream and downstream supply of green methanol.
