VPS launches ‘Innovation in Sustainability Awards 2021’; features USD 10,000 scholarship

Rotterdam-based international bunker fuel testing and advisory firm VPS on Monday (16 August) introduced the launch of the VPS Innovation in Sustainability Awards 2021.

The competition is open to full-time students aged between 18-25 currently studying in the UK, UAE, the Netherlands, Singapore and Texas.

This new initiative looks to recognise exceptional students aged between 18-25 who can demonstrate new, sustainable concepts / products that will actively contribute to the wellbeing of the environment.

VPS will award a $10,000 scholarship first prize, along with runners-up work placements within the VPS global network. There is also the opportunity for VPS to partner with selected entrants to fund initial feasibility studies [and beyond].

All entries to the VPS initiative must be aligned to one or more of the following UN SDGs:

UN SDG 03: Health and well-being
Concept must show how it:
Improves the quality of coastal air through the reduction of shipping emissions

UN SDG 07: Affordable and clean energy
Concept must show how it:
Advances greener marine fuels technology and/or improves the reliability of electricity supply, generation and monitoring devices

UN SDG 13: Climate action
Concept must show how it:
Improves the reliability of electricity supply, generation and monitoring devices, and/or improves marine fuel, lubrication and power station efficiency

UN SDG 14: Life below water
Concept must show how it:
Helps reduce ocean acidification and/or reduces marine pollution from vessels
