Tsuneishi Shipbuilding on Wednesday (25 March) said it delivered a methanol dual-fuel bulk carrier at its Philippines yard.
The ship, Brave Quest, a 45,500 GT vessel, was constructed at Tsuneishi Heavy Industries (Cebu). It is part of the Kamsarmax class, designed to comply with the maximum size restrictions for access to Kamsar Port in the Republic of Guinea.
The shipbuilder said the vessel is designed to suppress air draft while maintaining a shallow draft, achieving a versatility to operate in many major ports. It can run on both methanol and conventional marine fuels.
“By using methanol as fuel, it can reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) by up to approximately 80%, sulfur oxides (SOx) by up to approximately 99%, and carbon dioxide (CO₂) by up to approximately 10% compared to heavy oil. Furthermore, by using green methanol, it is possible to achieve zero emissions,” Tsuneishi said on its website.
The company did not reveal details of the vessel’s owner.
