Titan completes first bio-LNG bunker fuel delivery to Brittany Ferries ship in Portsmouth

LNG bunker fuel supplier Titan on Thursday (23 October) said it has completed the first delivery of liquefied biomethane (LBM/bio-LNG) to a Brittany Ferries vessel. 

Hybrid-LNG ferry Saint-Malo received the supply during one of its recent regular bunker calls in Portsmouth International Port with Titan’s bunkering vessel Optimus. 

“This hybrid ferry operates on LNG, battery power or a combination to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With this LBM delivery, Titan is proud to support the sustainability goals of yet another customer who chooses to lead rather than wait,” Titan said in a social media post.  

The company said LBM delivers overcompliance with the FuelEU Maritime regulation, presenting benefits via pooling, banking and borrowing. 

“Pooling allows operators to combine over- and under-compliant ships’ balances, so the pool offsets individual deficits or surpluses. Banking involves carrying surplus over to the next year. Borrowing means using next year’s surplus early, with interest,” it added. 

LBM can also be ‘dropped into’ all established LNG bunkering infrastructure, including LNG-fuelled ships, and blended with LNG or e-methane at any ratio – with no vessel modification required. This flexibility enables operators to pursue initial emissions reductions through LNG and by introducing biomethane in line with their voluntary and regulatory emissions targets.

 “Our latest LNG and LBM bunkering operation highlights that the methane decarbonisation pathway is not a future promise; it is already delivering environmental performance today,” Titan added.

Molgas Energy Group (Molgas), backed by infrastructure investor InfraVia, recently finalised the full acquisition of Titan Energy Holding, parent company of Titan Clean Fuels (Titan).
