Singapore: Shell completes first LNG bunkering op of largest Japan-flagged cruise ship

Energy giant Shell has successfully completed its first LNG bunkering operation of a cruise vessel in Singapore Cruise Centre, according to Dexter Belmar, General Manager and Head of Global Downstream LNG on Tuesday (27 May).

The company supplied LNG to the ASUKA III, largest Japan-flagged cruise ship, operated by NYK Cruise, a group company of Nippon Yusen Kabuskhiki Kaisha (NYK Line), on the ship’s first bunker stop.

“The dual fuel LNG fleet is expanding in the cruise segment, and we are thrilled to share our latest milestone with cruise lines – this time in Singapore,” Belmar said.

“We extend our gratitude to NYK for their continued trust in our capabilities to supply LNG to a diverse range of their vessels, including pure car and truck carriers, and bulk carriers across our bunkering hubs in Singapore and Europe.”

Separately, Singapore Cruise Centre said ASUKA III completed its first marine LNG bunkering by FueLNG Private Limited, a joint venture between Seatrium and Shell Singapore.

“This milestone marks Shell LNG’s first supply to an LNG-powered cruise ship in the region,” it said.

The centre added that this follows on Silvernova’s first LNG bunkering operation at its terminal in February this year.
