Brazilian state-controlled oil and gas producer Petrobras recently announced that it has launched VLS (Very Low Sulphur) B24 bunker fuel in Rio Grande after it obtained International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) EU certification.
The firm said it received the certificate for the commercialisation of the VLS B24 at the Rio Grande Terminal (TERIG), in Rio Grande do Sul.
The VLS B24 produced by Petrobras, is the result of mixing mineral bunker fuel with 24% biodiesel.
In July 2024, Petrobras was the first company in the country to obtain authorisation from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) to commercialise marine fuel with renewable content.
The firm said VLS B24 has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 20%, depending on the raw material used in biodiesel production and considering the complete life cycle of the product.
“The certification of the renewable fraction of VLS B24 is yet another indication of our strategy of leading the fair energy transition, presenting economically viable solutions that are appropriate to society’s demands for sustainability,” said Petrobras’ director of Logistics, Commercialization and Markets, Claudio Schlosser.
