Marine fuels supplier Peninsula on Wednesday (7 October) said it has successfully completed the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation at the Port of Sagunto.
The company said the operation marked an important step forward in the development of alternative marine fuels in the region.
The operation took place on 15 September and was carried out by Levante LNG, Peninsula’s LNG bunkering vessel.
LNG was supplied to Thor Highway, a car carrier operated by Japanese shipping company “K” Line.
“The operation reflects the confidence that major international shipowners place in Peninsula’s LNG bunkering services across the Mediterranean,” the company said in a statement.
This first LNG delivery in Sagunto further enhances the availability of alternative marine fuels within the Valencia port cluster, supporting a wide range of vessel segments operating in the region.
Peninsula holds a licence to supply LNG as a marine fuel in the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandía.
