Marine fuel supplier Oceania Bunkering Mozambique (OBM) on Tuesday (20 October) introduced pipeline bunkering services at the ports of Beira, Nacala and Pemba.
According to the company, many ships calling at Mozambique ports had to detour, waiting for a bunker barge or bunker in another country before arriving.
“At a time when marine fuel availability remains a challenge, this service aims to provide vessels calling at these ports with a more efficient and reliable bunkering solution, reducing unnecessary delays and improving operational flexibility,” said Mphalhane Chone, OBM’s Head of Bunkering.
On the importance of the three ports, the company said Beira connects Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi to the sea while Nacala is a deep-water port of the north capable of accommodating large cargo ships. Pemba, meanwhile, supports gas projects in Cabo Delgado.
OBM already operates at Maputo, Beira, Nacala, Pemba and Quelimane, supplying marine fuels including VLSFO, marine gasoil (MGO) and high-sulphur fuel oil (HSFO), as well as marine lubricants.
The company also launched ship-to-ship (STS) bunkering operations at Beira Anchorage in October.
