Fincantieri delivers LNG-fuelled cruise ship “Sun Princess” to Princess Cruises

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri on Wednesday (14 February) said it delivered the first LNG-powered cruise ship built by the Group, Sun Princess from its Monfalcone shipyard to enter Princess Cruises’ fleet.
“Sun Princess, which at 178,000 gross tonnes is the largest ship built in Italy to date, has been delivered from our Monfalcone shipyard,” it said in a social media post.
“It is the first LNG-powered cruise ship built by our Group, significantly reducing emissions thanks to the maritime industry’s most environmentally sustainable technology.”
Princess Cruises, which is part of Carnival Corporation & plc, separately said the ship does need to remain alongside in the shipyard to allow for additional technical work to ensure an outstanding vacation is delivered.
“Accordingly, the cruise line regrettably is cancelling the February 18 voyage. Sun Princess now will make its maiden voyage on 28 February from Rome,” it said.
