Xiamen Port completed its first ship-to-ship bonded liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation for an international vessel, according to Xiamen Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) on Friday (7 November).
This milestone marked Xiamen Port’s ability to supply both biofuel and LNG, creating a diversified fuel supply capability.
On 7 November, bunkering vessel Hai Yang Shi You 301 supplied 2,000 cubic meters of bonded LNG marine fuel to container ship MSC Daria at the Songyu Container Terminal of Xiamen Port.
An official from the Xiamen Port Authority explained that this bonded LNG bunkering operation is a significant achievement for the port in implementing the “Green Xiamen Bay” initiative.
In recent years, the port has achieved full coverage of shore power at five types of specialised terminals, bonded biofuel oil bunkering and first pure electric tourist ship.
“The successful completion of the first bonded LNG bunkering transaction not only fills the gap in clean fuel bunkering at Xiamen Port, but also marks Xiamen Port’s official entry into the ranks of the few ports in China with bonded LNG bunkering capabilities,” said Ren Guoyan, Director General of Xiamen Port Authority.
