China: Taicang Port bunkering volume up to 615,000 mt supplied in 2023

Taicang Maritime Safety Administration on Wednesday (31 January) said a total of 615,000 mt of bunker fuel were supplied to 2,352 ships arriving at the port throughout 2023, a year-on-year increase of 4.8%, a record high for the port.

The authority said the number of ships supplied also increased by 17.5% on year. 

In order to achieve the milestone, Taicang Maritime Safety Administration said it took several measures to ensure continued improvements of bunkering operations. 

This included a systematic supervision of “spot-point threading and pavement” and actively built a new supervision system for “before, during and after” bunkering operations . This supervision system made bunkering operations proceeding more orderly and efficient.

The port also implemented a “dual report single approval” on-sea operation management and AI-based control models for the operations to prevent unintended incidents such as bunker spills. 

In the next step, Taicang Maritime Safety Administration will continue to deepen the three-dimensional floating oil supply supervision model of “spot threading and pavement”, make multi-directional efforts to achieve practical results, ensure the overall stability of the safety and pollution prevention situation of floating oil supply operations in the Taicang area, and help Taicang on the Yangtze River.

Taicang Maritime Safety Administration said it will focus to deepen the systematic supervision and ensure the overall safety and pollution prevention situation of on-sea bunkering in the Taicang area.
