China: Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding completes MSC’s 16,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel vessel series

Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, on Monday (29 December) said it has successfully completed the Group’s project to build twelve 16,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), with the delivery of the last vessel on 27 December.
The 12th container ship in the series, MSC SAUDI ARABIA, built by Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding for MSC, set sail and was delivered to the shipowner for operation.
Construction began in mid-December 2024 while the ship entered the dry dock at the end of May 2025. It was then launched in mid-October and successfully completed its sea trials in mid-December with all test results meeting design requirements.
On 18 December, the Group and MSC jointly held a naming ceremony for the new vessel.
On 22 December, CH Giuseppe Gargiulo, MSC Head of Newbuilding for China Area, and Mr. Yang Xueyan, Assistant General Manager of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group and General Manager of Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding, signed the delivery documents of the ship on behalf of their respective parties.
Both parties have jointly completed over 30 single/dual-fuel container ship projects of various types, including 12,200 TEU, 14,000 TEU, 16,000 TEU, and 24,000 TEU.
“These projects have helped our company accumulate valuable experience in the large-scale construction of large container ships and improve our technological reserves for green and intelligent vessels,” the Group added.
