Guangzhou completed its first operation to blend high and low sulphur fuel oil grades to produce 0.50% sulphur bonded bunker fuel on Tuesday (17 December), reported Guangzhou Daily.
A total of 1,900 metric tonnes (mt) of high sulphur fuel oil and 2,200 mt of low sulphur fuel oil was transferred into the T0101 bonded tank at Hongda Oil Depot in Nansha.
The latest development was inline with the evolution of Guangzhou’s bunkering sector since the start of a bonded fuel oil pilot programme made possible from permission given by the Chinese State Council in November 2021.
The permission, issued under a pilot programme to enhance regional business environment, allowed selected Guangzhou and Shenzhen bonded bunkering firms to directly conduct bonded bunkering operations in Guangdong Province.
Since 2021, Guangzhou has successively completed bonded bunkering operations involving fuel oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and high sulphur biofuel, according to a Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce spokesman.
From January to November 2024, a total 890,000 mt of bonded bunker fuel was delivered to international vessels at Guangzhou port; the volume exceeded bonded bunker sales for the entire 2023 at Guangzhou, he noted.
