Xiamen Maritime Safety Administration (Xiamen MSA) on Tuesday (18 February) reported on the successful completion of a biofuel bunkering operation in Fujian.
With the service support of Xiamen MSA, bunkering vessel Hongxin 106 successfully refuelled container ship COSCO Asia with 2,500 metric tonnes (mt) of B24 marine biofuel at Xiamen Yuanhai Terminal in about eight hours.
The event marked another successful bunkering operation after the first international ship bonded biofuel bunkering in Fujian last year.
This was also the first biofuel bunkering after the release of the “Guidelines for Safety of Ship Biofuel Bunkering Operations in Xiamen Waters (Trial)”.
This bunkering operation has achieved a major milestone in scale, completing three times more bunkering volume than the first bunkering operation in Fujian.
Xiamen MSA said it will continue to support Xiamen Port expand the market scale of marine biofuel bunkering, explore the pilot project of local blending, local certification, and local refueling for marine biofuel and accelerate the expansion of green marine fuel supply and refuelling capacity such as LNG and methanol.
