Clean energy equipment and services provider CIMC Enric on Friday (30 October) said a 24,168-TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship completed a bunkering operation ahead of its commercial maiden voyage.
The bunkering operation also marked Guangdong’s first bonded green methanol supply to an international vessel through a direct cross-customs arrangement.
The OOCL Grace, one of the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel container ships, has received 983 metric tonnes (mt) of bonded green methanol at Yantian Port in Shenzhen, China, ahead of its commercial maiden voyage.
The green methanol was entirely supplied by CIMC Enric’s subsidiary, CIMC Green Energy Low Carbon Technology (Guangdong) Co Ltd, from its production facility in Zhanjiang.
The supply chain involved direct delivery across customs districts, connecting the company’s production base in Zhanjiang, under Guangzhou Customs, with Yantian Port in Shenzhen, under Shenzhen Customs.
The green methanol was delivered to the vessel by Daqing 268, a bunkering vessel operated by China Shipping & Sinopec Suppliers Co Ltd (SinoBunker), a joint venture between COSCO Shipping Group and Sinopec Group.
The operation established an integrated supply chain covering local production, bonded storage, cross-customs direct supply and bunkering, according to CIMC Enric.
CIMC Enric said the green methanol produced at its Zhanjiang facility had low lifecycle carbon emissions and met traceability, compliance and green certification requirements for international shipping.
The company added that it would continue working with supply chain partners, including SinoBunker, to expand green methanol production and storage capabilities, with the aim of supporting regular and larger-scale bonded green fuel bunkering in the Greater Bay Area.
