China Marine Bunker (PetroChina) (Chimbusco), in collaboration with Shenzhen Port Group and COSCO Shipping Lines, on Wednesday (3 December) successfully completed the first-ever green methanol bunkering operation in the Greater Bay Area.
Chimbusco successfully bunkered methanol dual-fuel container vessel COSCO Shipping Carnation with domestically produced green methanol fuel at Yantian Port in Shenzhen.
“The successful implementation of this green methanol bunkering not only fills a gap in relevant services within the region but also underscores Shenzhen Port’s infrastructure support and comprehensive service capabilities in supplying new types of clean energy as an international hub port. It holds significant demonstration and leading importance for the industry’s green upgrading,” the company said.
“This move also accumulates valuable experience for the subsequent large-scale and regular operation of green methanol bunkering services in the Greater Bay Area, and will strongly promote green and sustainable development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.”
COSCO Shipping Carnation is the sister vessel of China’s first methanol dual-fuel container ship, COSCO Shipping Yangpu. It can flexibly utilise green methanol or traditional fuel, significantly reducing carbon emissions and pollutant emissions during operation.
Shenzhen Chimbusco Ship Bunker Co Ltd and Shenzhen Port Energy Development Co Ltd will jointly advance the construction of a green marine bunkering system to assist the shipping industry in its low-carbon transformation.
