Dalian Shipbuilding Offshore Co Ltd (DSOC) and China Bunker recently signed a contract to build a 20,000 cubic metre (m3) LNG bunkering vessel.

According to its WeChat profile description, China Bunker is a company focusing on green marine fuel bunkering and aims to develop clean energy infrastructure in China and the Asia-Pacific region while supporting the low-carbon transformation of the shipping industry.

The 138-metre-long bunkering vessel will be China’s first of its kind to be independently developed with a membrane-type cargo containment system, designed to meet the latest IMO environmental standards and is suitable for LNG bunkering at major ports worldwide.

The vessel will boast advanced system integration capabilities, providing one-stop bunkering support services for full LNG bunkering support including inerting, cold tank pretreatment, and gas testing.

It will also be built to include interfaces for future ammonia bunkering, offering multi-fuel flexibility. The project will be classed by China Classification Society.

“The newly signed LNG bunkering vessel project marks another milestone in DSOC’s long-term commitment to high-end marine equipment in the fields of low-carbon, environmentally friendly, and clean energy,” the company said.
