PetroChina International (Singapore) recently completed its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation, marking the start of the company’s commercial LNG bunkering activities in Singapore.
This comes following the company obtaining an LNG bunkering licence from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), effective 1 September.
The operation took place on 15 October, when Paolina Consulich, an LNG bunkering vessel chartered by the Singapore-based company, supplied LNG to two COSCO Shipping vessels, Zhen Guan Kou and Han Jiang Kou, according to a company announcement.
The company prepared for operations by arranging the charter and operation of a bunkering vessel and coordinating LNG procurement, storage, transportation and supply scheduling.
Working with COSCO Shipping and under MPA’s guidance, the company coordinated fuel supply and vessel scheduling and developed a bunkering plan to ensure the first operation was completed safely.
The company said the operation deepened its cooperation with COSCO Shipping in alternative marine fuels and provided practical experience for future regular LNG bunkering services.

It plans to strengthen cooperation with key shipping customers, develop its LNG bunkering supply chain and service capabilities, and expand its marine LNG fuel business in Singapore and surrounding markets.
The company also aims to develop a multi-fuel supply hub in the Asia-Pacific region, building a marine fuel supply system that combines conventional marine fuels with alternative fuels.
With PetroChina International (Singapore) expanding its multi-fuel bunkering activities in the city-state, the company has also acquired a newly built methanol dual-fuel bunkering vessel from Italy’s Fratelli Cosulich Group.
The vessel, named Vanda Pioneer, was officially named on 16 October after arriving at the Jurong Port Universal Terminal in Singapore. It is the third owned bunkering vessel in PetroChina International’s Singapore fleet.
