CLPe on Wednesday (14 October) said it partnered with CNOOC (Shenzhen) International Marine Clean Energy Co Ltd to complete Hong Kong’s first ship-to-ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation for a pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) on 26 September.
The operation took place at Western Anchorage No. 3, west of Victoria Harbour, with approximately 2,600 cubic metres (m³) of LNG supplied to AICC Fenghuang over six hours by CNOOC’s Haiyang Shiyou 301, an LNG bunkering and transport vessel.
The LNG dual-fuel AICC Fenghuang measures about 200 metres in length and 38 metres in width. It has 12 decks and can carry up to 7,000 standard vehicles.
Owned by Anhui Port and Shipping Group, the vessel departed for the Mediterranean after bunkering, carrying vehicles exported from mainland China.
CLPe Managing Director Mr Ringo Ng, said: “Through close collaboration and meticulous operational planning, CLPe and CNOOC have successfully completed Hong Kong’s first LNG bunkering operation for a PCTC, demonstrating the expertise and capabilities of both companies in serving a diverse range of oceangoing vessels.
“CLPe will continue to promote the wider adoption of green marine fuels and support the accelerated green transformation of Hong Kong’s maritime industry.”
CLPe and CNOOC have collaborated on LNG bunkering operations in Hong Kong waters since 2025. In June that year, the companies conducted Hong Kong’s first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering operation involving simultaneous cargo handling for a large container vessel.
Their subsequent operations have included a very large crude carrier (VLCC) and a bulk carrier.
